Dear John,
It doesn't happen as often as it should, but earlier this month the House came together and passed a bipartisan bill that will make a difference in the lives of nearly every single American .
That measure, the Postal Service Reform Act [[link removed]] , was passed by a bipartisan vote of 342-92. Here’s what it would do:
*
Save
$27
billion
by
undoing
a
misguided
requirement
imposed
by
Congress
in
2006
that
forces
the
USP
to
pre-fund
decades
of
health
benefits
for
employees
and
retirees,
which
has
decimated
their
budget
*
Lock
into
law
the
six-day
delivery
that
Americans
rely
on
*
Increase
transparency
and
accountability
for
delivery
timelines
and
shortfalls
And yet, despite the urgency of this measure and its bipartisan support, it was immediately blocked from being considered in the Senate by a lone Republican Senator.
The stakes for reforming and strengthening the Postal Service couldn't be higher. [[link removed]] As we saw in the onset of the pandemic and expansion of voting by mail, the Postal Service is the cornerstone of our ability to get important mail, prescriptions, deliveries, and election ballots. That’s why this bill is so critical - and what makes the latest partisan delays so unacceptable.
I recently discussed the results of an investigation into this issue and its connection to the House-passed postal reform bill. Watch here [[link removed]] :

I’m proud to have worked to get this bipartisan package done. And, I’ll keep working to get it over the finish line and to President Biden’s desk as quickly as possible.
Sincerely,
