Friends,

We have had an incredible few months and are excited to share updates from both of our partner countries. We are encouraged by the progress of both Belize and Uganda and the efforts they are demonstrating to reduce trafficking within their borders. We hope that when you read the stories below, you too will be encouraged and know that your gifts are bringing traffickers to justice and restoring hope to victims. We are grateful for your partnership and support in this important work to decimate trafficking.

Third Phase of Institute Model Kickstarts in Uganda with New Hire

The Institute welcomes Tyler Dunman as the Special Counsel to Uganda. In his new role, he will work in Uganda’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) providing expertise and supporting prosecutors who are working on trafficking cases. His position is one of the Institute’s three strategic components of our model to get to the root of the problem. Tyler is fulfilling the prosecutor anti-trafficking expert component of the Institute’s model in Uganda, where he will co-office with the country’s specialized anti-trafficking prosecutors who were trained at the Institute's Global Human Trafficking Academy last year.

Institute and Belize Police Conduct Trainings

The Human Trafficking Institute partnered with the Belize Police Department to conduct human trafficking victim identification and referral training at the Belize Central Prison, which offered prison employees an opportunity to expand their skills and aid in their case work.

Uganda Celebrates Monumental
Anti-Trafficking Act

Uganda recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act. Government leaders, non-profits, and Institute staff commemorated the country's work and acknowledged the future fight against human trafficking.

Douglass Fellows Learn From Experts

The Institute’s third class of Douglass Fellows joined staff for two days of hands-on orientation and training in Washington, D.C. in September. This year’s class heard from Institute staff, as well as experts in the field, who shared how their legal experience shaped their careers and offered them a unique platform to bear witness to justice.
