Have you heard the news? Tomorrow, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear a case on whether immigrants who utilize many types of welfare should be disqualified from obtaining legal permanent residence.

This comes as the Biden administration announced last week that it would undo a Trump-era policy that added Medicaid, housing, food stamps, and other non-cash benefits to the list of benefits that would disqualify an immigrant from receiving a green card. Long-standing federal law aims to ensure that people coming to this country will be self-sufficient and will not become “a public charge.”
