Friend, when impeachment proceedings against President Nixon began, PBS decided to broadcast the Watergate hearings in full -- 247 hours in total -- live AND in prime time.
This gave millions of public TV viewers the chance to follow along as the story of the Watergate break-in, the cover-up, payoffs, and dirty tricks unfolded before their eyes.
This level of public accountability is absolutely vital for a fair impeachment inquiry. But yesterday, Congress began its public hearings into President Trump's impeachment -- and many PBS stations didn’t re-air them in prime time for all Americans to see.
Call on PBS to televise all Trump impeachment hearings nationwide -- both live as they happen AND repeated each night in prime time -- on its flagship all-access public channels.
The American people deserve to hear and see the full investigation into President Trump’s abuses of power. They have a right to participate in the impeachment process -- and make informed decisions about it for themselves.
And today, PBS's job is more important than ever. We're in a political climate marked by misinformation and distractions that would be unheard of in the 1970s. The ONLY way to cut through all of that is with the absolute, unvarnished truth.
PBS executives have agreed to broadcast the hearings live and re-air them on a select number of stations. But they must be televised on ALL flagship channels nationwide in prime time -- so EVERY American has the opportunity to follow along as the impeachment proceedings unfold.
The American people should know exactly what's happening -- not just what's been filtered through cable news spin or the president's tweets. Tell PBS: step up and uphold your solemn duty to the public.
