John,
We want to keep you up-to-date on Jared’s work advocating for Mainers and breaking through partisan gridlock in Congress, so here is just some of what Rep. Golden has been working on since our last newsletter.
EXPANDING THE SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER (SBDC) NETWORK:
Earlier this month, the House Committee on Small Business passed Jared’s bipartisan bill that, if enacted, would expand the Maine SBDC network and help small business owners across Maine take advantage of the centers’ free business training, services, and advising.
HELPING VETERANS ACCESS THEIR RECORDS:
Jared joined a bipartisan effort to call for full reopening of the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) so that veterans can acquire much-needed benefits. This will allow veterans to gain easier access to VA care and education, retirement, and other benefits they’ve earned.
STANDING UP FOR TRIBAL COMMUNITIES IN MAINE:
The Wabanaki tribes in Maine have long been excluded from federal laws and programs that benefit tribes because of an agreement negotiated with the state decades ago. This month, Jared proposed a first step to change that by working with tribal leaders to introduce the Advancing Equality for Wabanaki Nations Act that would put the Wabanaki tribes on a more level playing field with other federally recognized tribes in the country.
SUPPORTING THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE:
Jared voted to pass the Postal Service Reform Act of 2022, a bipartisan bill that, if enacted, would save the USPS $27 billion over a decade, improve delivery times, and make reforms that will improve reliability. This vote builds on Jared’s previous efforts to ensure rural Mainers have reliable access to fast and reliable mail delivery.
DEFENDING PATIENTS’ RIGHTS AND PROTECTING MAINE JOBS:
This month Jared introduced the Patients’ Right to Know Their Medication Act of 2021. Big Pharma has been lobbying relentlessly for prescription drug manufacturers to distribute information electronically rather than by a paper insert – a change that would disenfranchise rural Mainers and take away jobs from the Twin Rivers Paper Company’s Madawaska Paper Mill. This bill would protect both patients and jobs by ensuring vital prescription information continues to be printed on paper inserts.
We know that none of this would have been possible without your continued support. Thank you for being on our team.
Sincerely,
Team Golden
P.S. Things are heating up in ME-02. The GOP establishment listed Jared as a top target to beat in November, and even after redistricting, ME-02 is rated a “Toss-Up.” We can’t let them undo all the progress he’s made, so if you can, will you chip in $5 or more to keep ME-02 blue so that Jared can continue advocating for Mainers in Congress?
