Far-right Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson’s anti-democracy extremism apparently knows no bounds.
He calls efforts to stop voter suppression and protect Americans’ access to the ballot a “power grab,” and has worked as hard as anyone to block urgently needed voting rights legislation.
He says the deadly January 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol was a “peaceful protest.”
Among the many, many conspiracy theories pushed by Johnson is that outside “agents-provocateurs” were the people responsible for any violence on January 6 in an attempt to frame Trump supporters.
Johnson is running for reelection this year, reneging on his pledge to only serve two terms, so he can continue his efforts to undermine voting rights and replace our democracy with an authoritarian system built on bigotry and appeals to white grievance.
If we’re ever going to have a true pro-voting rights, pro-democracy Senate majority, we cannot squander our opportunity this year to unseat Johnson and replace him with a senator dedicated to defending the right to vote.
