On Mother’s Day back in 2000, I joined the Million Mom March on Washington to push for stronger gun violence prevention laws from Congress. At that time I was already committed to building a safer world for my kids, but I never imagined that commitment would lead me to my own office in the Capitol.
Every day, 96 Americans die from gun violence. Not even our most precious spaces, our schools and churches, are immune. And the most shameful part is — this is preventable. In 2021, there were 2332 shooting victims in Philadelphia. In my mind, that is 2332 too many.
That’s why I have always and will continue to advocate for sensible, responsible solutions to gun violence. It’s personal for me — not just because I survived an armed carjacking earlier this year, but because I am a mom who wants a safer world for her kids.
If you support my commitment to gun violence prevention, instantly add your name here.
Many gun deaths are preventable, and research clearly shows that states with stricter gun laws have lower rates of gun violence. Now more than ever, we must pass sensible gun policy reform. For you, for me, and for our kids.
Sincerely,
Mary Gay
