As a Cuyahoga Community College graduate and professor, I’ve seen first-hand the transformative power of a college education to open doors and change lives — both as a student and as an educator.

And it’s because of that experience that I say this: we must cancel student loan debt and make college tuition-free. I’ll explain more in a minute, but if you’re already on board, please use this link to say you support canceling student debt:

Here’s the deal — I was a first-generation college student myself. I understand just how much of a burden the cost of tuition can be, particularly when you have other expenses or a family to support.

And it is a tragedy to me that so many young people are being forced to give up on their dream of a college education because it’s too expensive and they don’t want to be saddled with a lifetime of debt.

For decades, Americans — particularly Black and brown Americans — have been told that a college education is the way to a better life. But for too many people, going down that path requires taking out thousands of dollars in student loans.

20 years after graduation, the average white student owes $1,000. The average Black student owes $18,500.

It doesn’t have to be like this. Right now, President Biden has the authority to cancel student debt with a stroke of his pen.

Canceling student debt will jump-start our economy, help close the racial wealth gap in this country, and ensure that all of our young people are able to get the education they need without going into life-altering debt.

So I’m calling on President Biden to do it, and I’m asking you to join me. Will you add your name to my petition and urge President Biden to cancel ALL student debt? [[link removed]]
