Raising the Minimum Wage Will

Help Workers

Dear friend,

Minimum wage workers need a raise! It’s been 10 years since minimum-wage workers got a raise – the longest we’ve ever gone without raising the minimum wage since it was first created in 1938.

Millions of people are still struggling to get by on $7.25 an hour (or just $2.13 an hour for tipped workers!) when the cost of living continues to go up and up. The Raise the Wage Act would change all that and it is SO close to getting a vote on the House floor. We just need a few more supporters to put it over the top! Can you help us?

Call 1-866-426-2631 (English) or 1-877-736-7831 (Spanish) and tell your Representative to vote YES on the Raise the Wage Act (HR 582), and vote AGAINST any proposals that weaken the bill. We need all of our representatives to fight for this bill and bring it to a vote! [You can also click here to tweet at your Representative.]([link removed])

Did you know that minimum wage workers reported fewer unmet medical needs in states with higher minimum-wage rates?

Did you know that a higher minimum wage decreases the rate of low birth-weight babies, lowers rates of teen alcohol consumption and helps bring about declines in teen births? [Learn more about the impact of a higher minimum wage in the New York Times.]([link removed])

For the first time in over a decade, we  have a real chance to pass a minimum wage increase in the House. H.R. 582, the Raise the Wage Act, has already passed through the Education and Labor Committee. It’s time for the Fight for $15 to reach the House floor!

[Economists agree]([link removed]) that the Raise the Wage Act would raise incomes and boost the economy. Study after study has shown that when we raise the minimum wage it helps lift people out of poverty and puts money back into our local economy. Unlike tax giveaways to the rich, raising the minimum wage will boost local economies because low-wage workers will use the raise to pay for life’s necessities like food, healthcare and childcare.

It’s time for elected officials to take a stand for workers and vote YES on the Raise the Wage Act. Will you join us in urging  your Representative to do the right thing and raise wages for more than 40 million workers. That’s $118 billion for groceries, gas, medicine, school supplies and more. For families living on the edge, that money could make all the difference. Call your member of Congress at 1-866-426-2631 (English) or 1-877-736-7831 (Spanish) to support the Raise the Wage Act and vote against any amendments that would weaken the bill. [You can also click here to tweet at your Representative!]([link removed])

The Raise the Wage Act not only raises the minimum wage to $15 by 2024, but it also ties the minimum wage to median wages so no one gets left behind by Congressional inaction again. It also gets rid of the discriminatory tipped minimum wage that leaves millions of people, mostly women, and people of color, vulnerable to harassment because they depend on tips to get by.

Take action today and make sure the Fight for $15 gets a vote! Call your Member of Congress at 1-866-426-2631 (English) or 1-877-736-7831 (Spanish) to tell them to make sure the Fight for $15 gets a vote!

We are so close to getting this bill to a vote. Thank you for speaking up!

In solidarity,
