In our excitement to announce the recipients of the Alex Sink Changemaker Award , we inadvertently left off one of our biggest changemakers of the year, Sarah Leonardi. Sarah flipped a key seat on the Broward County School Board i n 2020, taking out a Republican incumbent.
When Florida became the nation’s epicenter for the fight over mask mandates in public schools, Sarah stood up for students and science, speaking out against Gov. DeSantis’s lack of leadership and political posturing. She’s been a stalwart advocate for students, families, and teachers, and her leadership has already earned her a place in the national spotlight.
