GOP state legislatures will soon be able to get away with egregious violations of the VRA unparalleled since the days of Jim Crow.
John,
This past week a Trump-appointed federal judge in Arkansas threw out a case from the NAACP that called into question a series of racially gerrymandered legislative maps. The judge ruled that only the US Attorney General could sue states for alleged violations of the Voting Rights Act (VRA), a move that seriously defangs the public’s ability to enforce the Voting Rights Act.
Republicans have historically seen the VRA as a hindrance and see curtailing it as a critical objective for staying in power
If individuals and organizations can’t call out their local and state governments and file suits, GOP state legislatures will soon be able to get away with egregious violations of the VRA unparalleled since the days of Jim Crow.
Your contribution will support our efforts to hold this toss-up seat, keep our democratic majority, and will allow our party to keep up the pressure to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
I’m running for Congress to give a voice to Americans who have been left behind. While voting rights are strong in Illinois, we cannot afford for any American to be left without a vote.
