Friend --
DSA FOR
RASHIDA
After our February General Meeting,
Metro Detroit DSA voted overwhelmingly in favor (207 YES, 4 NO, 3
ABSTAIN) of re-endorsing DSA member Rashida Tlaib for Congress for a
third time. It was our highest turnout for a vote ever!
Now you have one more decision to
make: Will you make this campaign our biggest
ever?
Do you want to see a strong DSA for
Rashida campaign that:
-
shows people that
democratic socialism is alive and well in the post-Bernie era?
-
expands our base into
new working-class areas?
-
forges new connections with
local unions and community colleges?
-
raises Metro Detroit DSA’s profile nationally?
-
activates our members,
recruits new members, and builds new leaders?
We can do a lot more than knock
some doors between now and the August primary election, but
ONLY if you get involved early! We can use this
campaign to connect with people about demands that matter:
Medicare For All, a Green New Deal, good union jobs with a
living wage, education & housing for all, canceling student
debt, and more. We can also connect people who love Rashida
with DSA! But a powerful campaign is only going to be possible with
mass participation from our membership.
Ready to take the next step to win
socialism in Michigan? Here’s how:
-
Come to the next Electoral Committee meeting to help us build
the campaign! We meet every
Tuesday at 7PM on Zoom (Zoom meeting link here). If you’re a member, you can also join us
in the #electoral channel in Slack (if you aren’t already on Slack,
email a dues receipt to [email protected] to be invited).
-
Join the DSA for Rashida Comms Team! We need all researchers, writers, artists,
designers, and online posting warriors to bring your brain and muscle
for a beautiful propaganda operation! The first step in building our
campaign will be creating the physical and digital materials that we
share both online and in-person with folks while organizing in
Rashida’s 12th Congressional District. Share your contact
information
here to find out about the first Comms Team
meeting!
DYLAN WEGELA ENDORSEMENT
REQUEST
The Electoral Committee has
received an endorsement request from Dylan
Wegela, a candidate for
State Representative in the 26th District (Garden City, Westland, Inkster, and
Romulus). Dylan is a public school teacher, education activist, and
former Union president that helped spark the 2018 #RedForED movement
in Arizona, resulting in returning $400 million to the state education
budget. You can view his website here and his endorsement questionnaire here.
Over the next few weeks, we will be
researching both the district and Dylan’s opponents before
interviewing Dylan and deciding on whether or not we should decline to
endorse or move it to the Steering Committee, our 25 member elected
leadership body. If approved by the Steering Committee, it would be
moved to a General Meeting for a final decisive vote by membership.
Read about our endorsement policy here and read our 2022 electoral strategy here.
In order to vote on the
endorsement, members must have attended at least two Electoral
Committee meetings within the last year so be sure to join us
every Tuesday at 7PM on Zoom (Zoom meeting link here)! We will share more information once we
have a date set to interview Dylan.
Solidarity forever,
Detroit DSA http://www.metrodetroitdsa.com/
