In a time when our democratic institutions are under attack, Presidents Day is an opportunity to celebrate the courageous leaders in American history who fought for our Democracy.

This day honors, among others, President George Washington, who willingly relinquished the Presidency at the end of his second term, setting the precedent for a peaceful transition of power to the next democratically-elected President.

Unfortunately, in recent years, it’s become all too clear that not every leader has such a commitment to our democratic institutions.

From the violent attack on the Capitol to shameful voter suppression measures and lies about election fraud, too many Republicans are betraying the American values that we celebrate today.

And they are using the same shameful tactics to try and take away my seat in Congress.

I understand all too well that if we can’t keep seats like mine, we will lose the House in 2022. That’s why I’m doing everything I can to win reelection — and that’s why I’m asking for your help in defending the democratic ideals and institutions of our Founding Fathers.
