We have breaking news, friend —
Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-NV) has just introduced legislation to designate Avi Kwa Ame, also known as Spirit Mountain, in Nevada as a National Monument. This would protect nearly 450,000 acres of sacred Indigenous sites and biodiverse wildlife in the Mojave Desert. A monument designation would preserve ecological resources, strengthen our outdoor recreation economy, and combat the impacts of climate change.
LCV is building a major campaign to support the locally-led efforts to make Avi Kwa Ame a National Monument, along with protecting other lands and waters that would help fulfill President Biden's promise to conserve 30% of America's lands and waters by 2030.
Please, chip in to help power our campaign right now — it only takes $5.
This news is an important step forward — Indigenous tribes have fought for decades to permanently protect the areas around Avi Kwa Ame. Its visually stunning landscapes, biological diversity, and cultural significance make Avi Kwa Ame a clear choice for conservation. This move is also popular — our latest polling shows that 70% of Nevadans support protecting these lands.
But you know that just because a policy is popular, just because it's supported by local communities, just because it's a big win for the environment — that's not enough to guarantee it will happen.
That's why we need your support right now — to keep this opportunity from slipping away »
Our campaigns work to permanently protect at-risk landscapes and historic cultural sites like Bears Ears, the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts and Avi Kwa Ame for future generations to enjoy. These campaigns also protect at-risk plants and wildlife and promote healthy, natural ecosystems throughout the country.
The federal government must move quickly to conserve these vital lands and waters.
For the sake of combating climate change, promoting biodiversity, recognizing Tribal sovereignty, and making access to nature more inclusive and equitable, our campaign must succeed.
We are organizing write-in campaigns, pressuring the White House, and lobbying Congress to support these vital land conservation efforts, but
without the support of our members, our campaigns don't work. That's why we're asking — please make a gift of just $5 or more today to keep us in the fight. »
Thank you for your support — we'll keep you in the loop about our conservation efforts as this fight continues.
