Only two weeks to go until Debt Week! With the election right around the corner it’s more important than ever that we let candidates from all the Parties know they must End the Debt Trap.
Debt Week is a national week of action where we come together to campaign against unjust debt. Last year thousands of us got involved, holding events, campaigning on stalls, sharing the campaign online and making sure our voices were heard.

And it couldn’t be more urgent, right now personal debt has reached the highest levels ever – a staggering £217 billion. One in four people in the UK are affected by problem debt.
A combination of low wages, insecure work and welfare cuts mean that growing numbers of families across the UK have no choice but to turn to high cost lenders just to make ends meet. And once you are caught in a trap of spiralling debt and interest rates, it can be incredibly hard to get out.
But by taking action together we can change this. We’re calling for a cap on interest and charges to stop people getting ripped off and to help End the Debt Trap for millions across the UK.

Last year we won some real change, a cap on interest and charges for rent to own products, but we need to pile on the pressure to get the cap extended to loans, credit cards and overdrafts. It’s so important we take action together in the run up to the general election and make sure that, whoever gets elected, they act to End the Debt Trap.
Thanks, as ever, for everything you do.
Best Wishes,
Eva, Jenny, Sarah, Abi and everyone at JDC
