After inciting an insurrection and being impeached not once but twice, legal scholars suggested that — you guessed it — Donald Trump might be a good candidate for consequences under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
Team — It's Presidents' Day!
Presidents' Day was started to commemorate the birthdate of two Founding Fathers: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Now, the third Monday in February honors all of the Presidents who have served our country.
Some of those Presidents are perhaps less worthy of celebration than others. Well, really only one in particular comes to mind.
Did you guess who?
After inciting an insurrection and making history as the first President to be impeached not once but twice, legal scholars suggested that — you guessed it — Donald Trump might be a good candidate for consequences under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution dictates that anyone who is deemed to have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the United States should be barred from holding public office. And in fact, this very provision of the Constitution was discussed as part of Trump’s second impeachment immediately following the January 6th insurrection.
Whether or not this is a legal reality is a complicated question, team, and we’ll leave that up to the experts. But today, we thought it might be fitting to mark Presidents' Day by asking you this:
Do you think Donald Trump should be barred from holding public office ever again?
If the principles behind Section 3 of the Constitution’s 14th Amendment could be applied to Donald Trump, he would never hold public office again — that means no Trump 2024, no Trump for Florida Senate, not even Trump for elected dog catcher.
Sounds like a reasonable deal to us.
