For the past 27 years, the Texas Freedom Network has been a champion for progressive policies that defend the rights – including the right to vote – of the people of Texas.

Our state’s current leadership has decided to take a frightening and radical turn to the right that threatens democracy itself. Now, in this critical election year, our democracy is on the line. On this Presidents’ Day, a day that is about leadership, I am proud to announce we are launching the Defend Democracy Fund.

Here is just a sampling of what we are up against. In just the last year, top elected officials took an undemocratic and radical turn to the right, and have:

• Passed a sweeping anti-voter law that will make it harder to vote
• Barred local governments and private businesses from taking common-sense measures to save lives and stem the spread of COVID
• Practically banned abortion by turning over Texans’ reproductive freedom to legal vigilantes
• Turned kids into political punching bags by passing a discriminatory law targeting transgender youth in public schools
• Launched an attack on education and the First Amendment by seeking to ban hundreds of books from schools and community libraries.

With so much at stake, we’re depending on you to help us in 2022.
