‘The Kevin Roberts Show’ Comes Out Swinging Against China

Tune in: Heritage just launched a new weekly podcast called “The Kevin Roberts Show,” which you can find on Apple Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Spotify, Ricochet, YouTube, and more. Each episode is a rallying cry for lovers of freedom everywhere and features in-depth analysis of current issues with Heritage President Kevin Roberts and America’s cultural and political leaders.

Podcast premiere: True to his word of being “on offense, all the time,” Roberts hit the ground running in the first episode with a frank discussion about the threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party and how we can hold them accountable.

Special guests: Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and Heritage Senior Research Fellow Dean Cheng were the guests on the podcast’s premiere.

Defending Ukraine: How We Should Do It and Why

In the news: Russia’s actions in Ukraine have sparked a debate among Americans over what role the U.S. should play, if any.

How we got here: Luke Coffey, director of the Douglas and Sarah Allison Center for Foreign Policy, says that in many ways, the weakness our government showed in our disastrous exit from Afghanistan opened the door for challenges like this.

What we can do: Ukraine’s continued independence benefits the U.S. by keeping Russia in check. There are several things the U.S. can do—that don’t involve sending U.S. troops—to help the Ukrainian people defend themselves and remain free.

Equality vs. Equity in Replacing Justice Breyer

The problem: President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would only consider a black woman to replace U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer has generated widespread disapproval.

Why it matters: The biggest issue here is Biden’s attempt to use this nomination to achieve “equity” instead of “equality.” In a justice system that operates according to the principle of “equity,” people are treated not as individuals but as unequal groups, subject to the partiality of judges who can choose to restrain or promote those groups on a whim.

Where we go from here: “The very idea of the ‘rule of law’ is being challenged like never before,” writes Heritage senior legal fellow Thomas Jipping. “Biden’s nomination to replace Justice Breyer is a good opportunity to show Americans how the choice between equality and equity will dramatically affect our liberty.”
