Look, I know this might sound cliché but running for public office was never really in the plan for me. I’m about to tell you why but first, will you chip in to protect my battleground seat? →
I grew up in a working-class family that, during some months, lived paycheck to paycheck. Being one of eight children, my mother was always glad to get me out of the house for swimming practice or Girl Scouts.
I saw how hard my parents worked to support their family and knew that I wanted to be as determined in my life as they were in theirs. So, I worked hard in high school, got into my dream college, and worked multiple jobs to get myself through the next four years.
I’ll never forget how transformative having access to extracurricular opportunities and a quality education was for me as a kid. As a graduate fresh out of college, I knew I wanted to give as many kids as possible the same opportunities that I had.
It’s because of that passion that I went on to found the Las Vegas chapter of After School All-Stars, a non-profit dedicated to reducing dropout rates and increasing educational opportunities for every student.
The feeling that I had when I was able to make a difference in the lives of children and their families across Las Vegas was like no other. This feeling became my purpose in life and I grew drawn to the idea of public service to help as many people as possible.
I have to say, my first campaign for Congress was a little daunting. But, with the same determination I got from my parents that guided me through life, I ran and I won.
This is how I got to where I am today – an advocate for education, equal rights, and job opportunities for every family in Nevada. I’m running for re-election in NV-03 because the people here are worth fighting for.
If you’re with me in this fight to make Nevada a place where every child can succeed and every parent has access to a good-paying job, will you chip in $5, $10, or whatever you can afford right now?
Sincerely,
Susie Lee
