Dear John --
What’s really going on outside
Parliament? What does it tell us about where New Zealand is going? How
do we heal the chasm of division that has opened up our
country?
These are the questions New Zealanders are asking me
and that our country must grapple with.
Please join me online at 2.30pm this afternoon as I
discuss COVID, the protests and
mandates.
John, you can watch live on Facebook by
clicking here.
The protest at Parliament includes people who are showing a
flagrant disregard for the law – blocking off streets, ignoring rules
and abusing Wellingtonians.
However, there are frustrations
shared by law-abiding and well-intentioned people up and down the
country about the Government’s approach to Covid and its lack of a
plan.
A better balance between public health needs and
individual freedoms is possible. It is necessary if we are to remain a
socially-cohesive nation. Striking that balance will require a more
sophisticated approach than we have seen from the Government so
far.
I look forward to speaking to you at 2.30pm today. I
hope you can join
me.
Regards
Christopher
