Jack, the extremist group Cowboys for Trump campaigned across our state, collecting donations and promoting Trump’s far-right agenda. While doing so, they tried to operate off the grid by filing a lawsuit to avoid publicly disclosing their donors.
Two years ago, I ordered Cowboys for Trump to register as a political action committee or face a fine. They refused and decided to countersue instead.
But now, a federal judge on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals has dismissed their case. Their efforts to unlawfully interfere with our elections here in New Mexico have ended in failure.
Since day one of Cowboys for Trump's unwelcome presence here, I've stood up to these bullies every step of the way. As Secretary of State, I’ve always fought for strong election transparency, and I refuse to allow this hateful extremist group to get away with their flagrant disregard for our campaign finance laws and make a mockery of our elections. And I’ll stand up against any group that does this – regardless of political affiliation.
Now Cowboys for Trump will be held accountable — and you can count on me to do everything in my power to continue holding them accountable and prevent them from operating illegally in our state.
But in order for me to keep holding the line against extremists and protecting the integrity of New Mexico politics, I need to keep my seat safe. Can I count on you to pitch in to help me continue this important work as your New Mexico Secretary of State?
