Ever get charged a ridiculously high "fee" from your bank or credit card company? Ever think you are getting a good price for a hotel, flight, car rental -- or even a concert -- only to find a huge surprise fee?

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau -- led by Elizabeth Warren ally Rohit Chopra -- is on the case and working to slash predatory "junk fees."

Chopra said, "The CFPB is now accepting comments about the billions of dollars in junk fees that Americans pay on credit cards, bank accounts, and loans. Your feedback will inform our use of rulemaking, guidance, and enforcement tools to combat junk fees."

With overdraft fees, a cup of coffee can go from $3 to $35! An out-of-network ATM withdrawal can match a $20 withdrawal with a $20 fee. Prepaid credit cards can cost as much in fees as the value on the card.

In 2019 alone, banks and credit card companies charged Americans almost $30 billion in late-payment fees and overdraft charges.

"Junk fees" are predatory. They hurt consumers. They hit the most vulnerable hardest. And they lead to spiraling debt.

Going after Big Bank abuse is a great example of why the PCCC recommended Rohit Chopra to the Biden Administration early on.
