The CDC Pediatric mTBI Guideline consists of 19 sets of clinical recommendations that cover diagnosis, prognosis, and management and treatment. In addition, you can read this open access article for more information. Key recommendations include: Do not routinely image patients to diagnose mTBI. Use validated, age-appropriate symptom scales to diagnose mTBI. Assess evidence-based risk factors for prolonged recovery. Provide patients with instructions on return to activity customized to their symptoms. Counsel patients to return gradually to non-sports activities after no more than 2-3 days of rest. LEARN MORE Managing Chronic Health Conditions New Online Diabetes Technology Education Originally presented at the NASN2019 Annual Conference, What's New in Diabetes Technology and How to Manage Care in Schools is now available. This educational activity provides an overview of new diabetes technology, components for successful management and coordination of care in schools, and addresses barriers to using the new technology. Safe and Sound: Responding to the Experiences of Children Adopted or in Foster Care was developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics with support from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and Jockey Being Family. This informational series is for adults in the lives of children and youth who are adopted or in foster care, e.g., parents, caseworkers, early education and child care providers, teachers, school nurses, counselors, and others. The series examines — from diverse perspectives — the effects of early trauma, strategies on how to address the effects, and resources for more help and information. National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW) is almost here (Dec. 1-7). It’s our nation’s final push to get more Americans vaccinated against flu. This year the daily topics focus on high-risk groups.
