John – Florida Republicans are trying to pass a bill to limit discussion of gender identity and sexuality in public schools. Needless to say, it is a disgusting example of GOP bigotry on full display.

Supporters of the Parental Rights in Education bill, or the “ Don’t Say Gay ” bill, think that discussions of gender identity and sexual orientation are not “age-appropriate” for children. The proposed measure even goes so far as to allow parents to sue school districts if they think schools are violating the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

Students in the LGBTQIA+ community are already at increased risk of bullying, physical assault, and homelessness. In proposing this bill, Republicans are once again showing their true colors, and telling LGBTQIA+ youth that they are not valid or valued.

The potential for harm here cannot be overstated, team. We must stop this bill in its tracks and make sure that nothing like this is ever proposed again. Will you sign our petition to demand that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis revoke his support of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, and to stand in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ students in Florida and beyond? This is yet another case of conservatives manufacturing subjects for outrage in the invented “culture wars” taking place both in and out of schools across the country. From banning books to critical race theory, conservatives are undermining American education at every turn. Enough is enough.
