John,
If Mitch McConnell’s Senate career was a person, they’d be a geriatric millennial.
That’s right. He’s been a Senator longer than half of this country has been alive – 37 years!
When he started out his political career as a State Senator in Kentucky, he was known as “pragmatic” and a “moderate Republican.” Today, he’s a multi-millionaire.
So, in true honor of a geriatric millennial, here are a few things Mitch’s career has ruined:
• The Presidency: He refused to hold 45 accountable for any and all actions throughout his presidency, even refusing to denounce the Big Lie until after an attempted insurrection.
• The Senate: In President Obama’s first term, Mitch blocked 79 nominations. Comparatively, only 68 nominations had been blocked in the history of the Republic up to Obama’s presidency.
• The Supreme Court: He is adamantly for the filibuster and wouldn’t abolish it unless there were 67 votes for the change – except as a Majority Leader, when he abolished it with just 51 votes to ram through his own agenda, including a Supreme Court Justice.
• Our Democracy: As Minority Leader, he famously said “Breaking the rules to change the rules is un-American.” And yet, it’s the only way he’s gripped onto power, always moving the mark when it suits him.
For Mitch, accountability is long overdue.
Tomorrow, Mitch will turn 80. And we’re celebrating with accountability for the GOP! Donate $8 right now and help us wish Mitch a very happy accountability. [[link removed]]
