LET'S CELEBRATE PANGOLINS AND KEEP THEM SAFE

Hello John, do you love pangolins as much as we do?!

It’s World Pangolin Day and we celebrate these ancient animals, unchanged for 70 million years. Described by Sir David Attenborough as “One of the dearest animals I’ve ever met”, everything about them is special!

The only mammal covered in scales, pangolins walk on two legs and use a 40cm sticky tongue to scoop up ants. Curled in a ball, sharp scales protect against predators, even a lion.

But, these shy, secretive animals have no defence against humans and thousands are killed for meat and scales – used in traditional medicine. All eight species are threatened with extinction and their numbers continue to decrease. But, with your help, Born Free works hard to stop this terrible trade and protect wild pangolins.

Mona was a starving baby when rescued by our Sangha Pangolin Project partners in Central African Republic. The tiny pango pup quickly grew thanks to milk bottle-feeds and now hunts ants in the forest watched over by local tribespeople.

Want to know how you can help pangolins like Mona? Adopt our Pangolin Family ( [link removed] ) and show your support for pangolin care and conservation. You’ll receive a gift pack filled with fun facts and information, updates on our adopted animals and an optional cuddly toy. Or, go green with a digital pack emailed to the inbox of your choice, so even more of your donation can help save pangolins.

PS Did you know…?

Ahead of World Pangolin Day, we teamed-up with the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and Pangolin PR, to write an open letter to some of the world’s biggest tech companies, calling for them to introduce a brand new pangolin emoji! Not only will it be an adorable addition to the range of emojis we all know and love, it’ll also help raise awareness of the issues faced by pangolins. FIND OUT MORE ( [link removed] )

AND we’ve joined forces with BobbleJot and Rewriting Extinction to raise awareness about the plight of pangolins, through a new online comic! Keep an eye on our social media channels today to see this exciting new collaboration…
