Hey friends!

In a previous email we talked about proposed legislation in Iowa that calls for criminal penalties for teachers and librarians who distribute books that extremist Republicans in the Iowa State Legislature consider “obscene”.

These are books primarily written by individuals from marginalized communities.

Update, that legislation has advanced through the Iowa Senate Judiciary Committee with increased criminal penalties for teachers and librarians over those proposed in the original legislation.

The only “obscene” thing here is the continued attacks on our teachers by Republicans in the Iowa Legislature.

We need to stand up for our teachers. Our office will decline to prosecute teachers or librarians for distributing books from libraries and schools.
