Last week, the National Archives and Records Administration confirmed a disturbing report that it was forced to retrieve 15 boxes of documents, some of which were classified, from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home that should have been turned over when he left office.

 

But what is even more disturbing are reports that while in the White House, Trump had a reputation of destroying, tearing up, and even flushing documents down the toilet!

 

John, let’s be clear here: If the President of the United States, no matter who they are, knowingly destroyed records, then they are in violation of the Presidential Records Act.

 

This criminal behavior is what Trump encourages and the type of candidate he endorses. If Republicans win this November, transparency will cease to exist in the House of Representatives and possibly every other facet of American life. We need to step up today and defend every single seat from a far-right takeover. Will you chip in today and let Trump know that you support champions like Hank that protect our democracy?

As a member of the House Oversight Committee, it is Hank’s responsibility to investigate the operations of the federal government, including the executive branch. This falls squarely in their jurisdiction, and why shortly after reports started to surface, an investigation was quickly launched.

 

A functioning democracy requires transparency and oversight. And while the GOP openly flouts safeguards against tyranny, Hank and the Oversight Committee will be right there to protect our democratic institutions.
