A diplomatic breakthrough with Iran to end their nuclear program could be just "days away."1 Sadly, the war hawks in Washington are working overtime to sabotage this deal before it's even announced. Click here to tell Congress to support diplomacy with Iran!
In fact, as soon as word of an imminent deal got around, the powerful chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Bob Menendez, took to the chamber floor to trash the negotiations and call for a continuation of Trump's failed "maximum pressure" policy.2
Senator Menendez's words and actions undermine U.S. diplomats who are still in the middle of negotiations and put us on a path to war.
But right now, he and other hawks are testing to see how far they can push us away from diplomacy and peace. What happens in the next few days is crucial. If we speak out now, we can not only get hawks to step back, but we also strengthen the resolve of members of Congress who are waiting to see what the consensus is.
That’s why we've got to call on every member of Congress right now to support diplomacy!
When Trump tore up the original Iran nuclear agreement four years ago, he didn't just overturn President Obama's landmark foreign policy achievement: he broke the word of the United States.
Since then, not only have we lost the gains of the nuclear deal, but millions of people in Iran who are already dealing with a brutal government also have to face the effects of blanket U.S. sanctions which have created challenges with accessing medical supplies and everyday basics — amidst a pandemic that has exploded even further in Iran.
Trump's actions brought us to the brink of war and created untold, unnecessary suffering for millions. And as we see a return to diplomacy on the horizon, the last thing we need is anyone — let alone senior Democrats — championing these destructive policies.
We know you don't want to see another senseless war. The best way to prevent that is to support the diplomats who are currently brokering a deal. Now is our chance to make things right, and we can't let the hawks drown out voices who are pushing for peace.
