Investments for Early Childhood Education

Dear John,

Another $4.6 million is headed to Scranton-Lackawanna Head Start from the second installment of a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. These funds will be used for the continuation of high-quality, comprehensive, early childhood education for children in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

I applaud them for their dedication to enhancing the quality of life for children and families in Northeastern Pennsylvania. As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for federal investments like this for our children’s success and for the sake of our country’s future.

$4.6 million for local Head Start program

Head Start programs provide children and their families with education services focused on early learning, health and family well-being. These programs promote children’s growth and development and give parents an opportunity to become actively engaged in their child’s education. Head Start programs have served more than 36 million children since 1965, growing from an eight-week demonstration project to include full-day/full-year services and many program options.

Congratulations to Sebastian Joseph-Day on Super Bowl Victory

Congratulations to Monroe County native Sebastian Joseph-Day on his first Super Bowl victory! He plays as a Defensive Tackle for the Los Angeles Rams and was able to help lift his team to a 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday night.

We are so proud that Sebastian is from Northeastern Pennsylvania, and he is representing our community and Stroudsburg Area High School well.

Apply to be a Gold Star Family Fellow

My office is seeking a Gold Star Family Member to join the constituent advocacy team based in my district offices. This one-year paid fellowship is created through the Gold Star Family Fellowship Program, a U.S. House of Representatives program to provide employment opportunities for families of our service members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to our nation.

Gold Star Family Members are eligible for the program if they meet all the following requirements: must be the parent, spouse, sibling, child or step-child of a servicemember who either died on active duty or of a servicemember who received an Honorable Discharge and died due to a service connected disability within four years of military separation.

Producers with Crop Insurance can Receive Premium Benefit for Cover Crops

Producers, farmers and ranchers who are feeling the impact of COVID-19 market disruptions may apply for the Pandemic Cover Crop Program (PCCP).

This program aims to assist those dealing with financial issues due to COVID-19 if they have coverage under most crop insurance policies and if they planted cover crops during this crop year. All applicants must report cover crop acreage by March 15, 2022.
