Voting Rights is one of the BIGGEST issues facing our nation right now.

As we race towards the 2022 midterms, so much hangs in the balance and it’s crucial that we do everything in our power to make sure every American has access to the voting booth.

To better understand what we’re fighting for, we wanted to give you a roadmap of how we got here and why the fight for voting rights is more important than ever:

In the early days of our nation, only white, land-owning men were allowed to exercise the right to vote

The 15th Amendment is ratified in 1870 and extends the right to vote for all men regardless of race -- but this doesn’t stop widespread discrimination from keeping minorities away from the ballot box

Following the Women’s Suffrage Movement, the 19th Amendment gives women the right to vote

Congress passes the historic Voting Rights Act of 1965 which banned racially motivated voter suppression tactics like poll taxes and literacy tests — protecting the right to vote for all races

In 2013, the Supreme Court struck down key provisions of the original Voting Rights Act in their Shelby County v. Holder decision

NOW - Voting rights are under attack across the nation as red states race to change their voting laws -- and Republicans in Congress refuse to act

We’ve come so far, but it’s clear we still have quite a long way to go.

Folks, Terri Sewell is leading the fight for voting rights in Congress. As the representative of the nation’s Civil Rights District, Terri knows that old battles are becoming new again — but we don’t have to let history repeat itself.

Securing the right to vote for every citizen needs to be a top priority for Democrats ahead of 2022 and beyond. If you’re with us, will you chip in $5 and join Terri in the fight to defend the sacred right to vote? [[link removed]]
