The Hill:
“Three in four voters support banning lawmakers from trading stocks”
January 6, 2022
The majority of voters agree: Elected officials shouldn’t profit off their positions of power.
There’s momentum building to finally make progress in our long fight to prohibit members of Congress from trading stocks while in office.
What we’re doing is working. Let’s keep it up. Will you sign on your support for stopping public officials from abusing their power for financial gain? [[link removed]]
I’ve been fighting for this type of legislation for a decade. I don’t own individual stocks at all because members of Congress should serve the public, not their bottom lines.
But other lawmakers are buying and selling hundreds of millions in stocks every single year. It’s a system ripe for lawmakers to be tempted to take advantage of the inside information they get on the job to boost their stock portfolios.
I’m leading the charge on legislation that would bar members of Congress from trading stocks while in office.
We need to keep up this momentum. Will you add your name to our petition calling for a ban on stock-trading while in office? [[link removed]]
