WOMEN’S RIGHTS ARE IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY!!
Tuesday, March 8, International Women’s Day
Fill
the streets with serious determination and rebellious joy. We will
compel all to take notice, inspiring more people to join us. From there,
we rally more people and fury… aiming to bring society to a halt and
force our demand – that women not be slammed backwards – to be reckoned
with and acted upon by every institution in society. Find/join a protest here
To build for mass protests on March 8,
International Women’s Day we are calling on women who suffered before
abortion was legalized, along with their daughters, granddaughters,
partners and all who care to join this action in New York City:
Abortion Rights Speak Out at St. Patrick's Cathedral
Sunday February 27 1:30 pm (after mass lets out)
RSVP/volunteer
Call / text / DM with suggestions & questions 973 544 8228
This
will be a permitted speak out, and is planned to be safe for all to
attend. Sign up to attend, to give testimony, to send testimony to be
read, or to participate in an OPTIONAL non-violent direct action that
may carry risk of arrest.
St. Patrick’s was the site of the first pro-choice civil
disobedience in 1989. Abortion provider, activist and author Merle
Hoffman, above with a large coat hanger (symbolizing the dangerous
back-alley abortions before Roe v. Wade), will speak again at St.
Patrick’s on Feb 27, and we will raise the same hanger again!
All the Supreme Court Justices likely to uphold the restrictive
Mississippi abortion ban that would gut abortion rights are deeply
informed by the anti-abortion teachings of the Catholic Church. A
“factsheet” from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops states: “Since the
first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured
abortion. This teaching has not changed & remains unchangeable.”
We draw inspiration from the women of Poland who defied the powerful
right-wing alliance of the Polish church and state in pushing for even
more severe abortion restrictions. We draw inspiration, as well, from
the fierce struggle of women fighting abortion restrictions in Mexico,
Argentina, and elsewhere.
