John,
Paul LePage just can’t stop lying. He recently appeared on conservative radio stations to complain about Gov. Mills’s record on just about everything – even the very issues LePage made worse as governor. This is just his latest attempt to rewrite history.
LePage claims that “[Governor Mills] has done absolutely nothing to [help] drug addicts,” and – outrageously – that Governor Mills is ignoring domestic violence,. If that wasn’t enough, he went on to attack our hard-working public educators and the work they’ve done to improve our school systems. The facts tell a very different story.
We remember the truth. Drug deaths more than doubled under LePage’s leadership. He proposed eliminating 60 percent of the state’s child abuse investigators and attempted to slash funding for domestic violence prevention programs. LePage cut K-12 funding, and Maine schools saw their grades plummet.
Since taking office, Governor Mills has put Mainers first. She’s appointed a Director of Opioid Response and made life-saving naloxone widely available. Her experiences as a survivor of domestic violence helped her play a major role in a campaign to reduce domestic violence in the state. Gov. Mills also invested in our schools by raising the minimum teacher salary and expanding pre-K classes so that more children can access quality early childhood education.
Thank you,
