Dear neighbor:
The American Rescue Plan that Congress passed and President Biden signed into law got shots into arms, kids back into schools, people into jobs, and helped the Rams win the Super Bowl! Ok maybe that last one is a stretch, but the law did help create over 7 million jobs in 12 months – the highest in U.S. history. Following that, we passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that is going to rebuild roads and bridges, get lead out of water, and put broadband everywhere. Democrats are For the People.
Since I came to Congress, it’s been a priority of mine to protect animals against costly and ineffective animal experiments. Last week, I led a bipartisan letter with Representative Nancy Mace urging the NIH to phase-out animal experiments, which often fail to lead to treatments and cures for human diseases.
COMING UP: This Saturday, February 19th, we are hosting the seventh-annual, bipartisan, multi-district Service Academy Day! This is a great chance for young individuals interested in attending one of our nation’s service academies to learn more and get their questions answered. The event will be held over Zoom at 1:00 pm PT. To register, please click here.
Today, February 18th is also the last day for CA-33 students to submit artwork for our Congressional Art Competition. Students who live or attend school in California’s 33rd Congressional District can submit their piece of artwork by 5:00 pm PT to be considered. For more information and details on entry criteria, please visit my website.
COVID-19 Updates
I’m very pleased we’re seeing significant improvements in COVID-19 community transmission and hospitalization rates in Los Angeles County. Over the last week, LA County reported an average of almost 4,100 cases per day, which is down 81% from two weeks ago. As a result of decreasing hospitalizations, LA County lifted its outdoor mask mandate on Wednesday, February 16th, allowing people to go without masks outdoors at K-12 schools and at outdoor mega events. For more on the latest masking guidance for LA County, please click here.
If you have not done so already, please talk to your doctor about vaccines or read what doctor’s organizations like the American Medical Association have said about vaccines. To learn more and schedule an appointment, visit VaccinateLACounty.com.
LA Public Health operates a call center for county residents who test positive where they can receive information about quarantine and isolation guidelines. Residents can call 833-540-0473 seven days a week from 8:00 am-8:30 pm for assistance.
