I?m pleased to announce today that we?ve secured additional funding of nearly ?4m to support local small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). The D2N2 Growth Hub has received the money from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, which will see it extended from 1 April this year to 30 June 2023.
Working across Nottingham, Derby and wider county areas, the hub has been an invaluable resource for local SMEs, and never more so than the past two years of the Covid pandemic. The funding pays for dedicated staff to support business owners and offers grants of between ?3,000 and ?30,000.
SMEs play such an important role in boosting the city?s economy in terms of investment and job creation. I?d urge anyone interested in discovering more about advice and guidance on offer through the Growth Hub to visit the website. More information here.

People have started to think differently in recent years about how we deal with things that are no longer needed. Today, waste is no longer just something which is buried in the ground. It can be a resource to be re-used, recycled or converted to energy ? as we do with our energy-from-waste facility at Eastcroft. It is increasingly important that we ensure waste is planned for in a sustainable way and plays a part in addressing climate change.
That?s why, working together with Nottinghamshire County Council, we have produced a new Draft Waste Local Plan, which will provide a strategy for waste management across the City and County until 2038. The plan aims to ensure we have sufficient capacity to meet future needs and contains some challenging targets around?minimising waste production,?recycling, heat capture from waste and use of landfill.?
We would like to hear your views on the plan, which is now open for consultation until 4 April 2022. You can find out more and have your say here
I am grateful once again to our council staff who carry out vital work when we are confronted with emergencies - from pandemics to the storms we are experiencing now. Our tree services team have been out dealing with reports of dangerous or fallen trees and branches, our highways teams carry out important work such as clearing gulleys to avoid damaging flooding and our emergency planning team liaise with partner agencies to ensure there is a coordinated response. I thank them and other staff who do their bit to keep people in Nottingham safe.
It?s hoped we have already seen the worst of Storm Eunice, but the advice remains to be cautious and check latest advice for travel or destinations such as parks before venturing out. Latest information on affected council services is available here.

We are expecting the Government to announce that Covid 19 restrictions will end next week. In Nottingham, we want to encourage everyone to remain cautious, especially as case rates in the city remain higher than we would like.
Please continue to think carefully about how best to stay safe and protect yourself and others from Covid-19. The best advice remains ?Hands/Face/Space? ? and if you choose to no longer follow this advice, please be respectful of those that do.
Do also consider getting your Covid vaccine. It?s not too late to book yourself a slot at a venue and time to suit you: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination
Please do everything you can to take care of yourself and others.
