While many child trafficking prevention education curricula have been developed, to date, none of them have undergone a rigorous external outcome evaluation to show evidence-based impact. But that is about to change. After years of curriculum development and implementation, Love146’s Not a Number prevention education curriculum will be evaluated by Lisa Jones, Ph.D. and her team at the University of New Hampshire’s Crimes Against Children Research Center.

Euphoria is a show that debuted in 2019 on HBO with Zendaya in the lead role of 17-year-old Rue. The plot follows a group of high school students as they maneuver how to handle identity, trauma, drug addiction, love, and friendship. And in season 2, a child trafficking plotline may be developing. Although this show is at times depressing and disheartening, it is also one of the more typical depictions of how children are exploited (unlike the movie Taken). It is powerful that HBO decided to share this story with large audiences, especially those who are at risk for trafficking.

We would all want to see a world free of violence, harm, and exploitation. But how we go about it, we don’t always agree on. There’s widespread agreement in the anti-trafficking movement that we have to address the social determinants that make people vulnerable, such as housing insecurity, poverty, discrimination. But one thing anti-human trafficking experts remain deeply divided on is the spectrum of legal stances regarding commercial sex — such as questions of legalizing or decriminalizing prostitution, sex trade reform, and how to draw the line between voluntary sex work, exploitation, and trafficking. Love146's Vice President of Global Programs and Strategy Erin Williamson joined a panel discussion to discuss these intersecting topics.

When you use Amazon Smile, Amazon donates 0.5% of qualifying purchases to a charity of your choice. (That’s right. You don’t pay for the donation, and neither do we!) So for every $100 you spend, $0.50 is donated! Ok, ok, maybe it doesn’t seem like much, but it really adds up for us! In fact, through the years, Love146 supporters have raised a whopping $40,000 simply by using Amazon Smile while they shop.

When claims are made that “the Super Bowl is the largest human trafficking event,” additional damage comes to the credibility of the anti-trafficking movement and organizations like us that are a part of it. When myths like these fall apart (as they should and must), we at Love146 are still sitting here beside the children we care for — children who really have been trafficked and exploited. If we’re going to succeed in ending child trafficking, we need people to trust us when we say what we actually do know: the problem is real, and it’s not all hype.
