Dear Green American, To address the climate crisis, we need to move from fossil fuels to renewable energy as fast as possible. But, as we are increasingly successful in getting large corporations like AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile to adopt wind and solar power, it must be a priority that the communities most harmed by fossil fuels benefit the most from renewable energy. Here at Green America, we’ve been working with experts to map out how a clean energy economy can partner with and benefit Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities; create jobs for women and people of color that are underrepresented in the energy sector; and protect and enhance local environments. Our new report Calling for a Just, Clean Transition features the voices of experts in the energy justice movement who are fostering a transition to renewable energy that addresses historic and current inequities: -
Olivia Nedd, Policy Director, Access & Equity Program at Vote Solar -
Jasmine Graham, Energy Justice Policy Manager for WE ACT for Environmental Justice (WE ACT) -
Chandra Farley, Resolve Consulting and Founder of the Good Energy Project -
Matt Hargarten, Vice President of Campaigns for the Coalition for Community Solar Access -
Leslie Elder, Mid-Atlantic Director, Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA) The report also calls on large corporations, starting with the telecoms sector, to prioritize equity and justice into their clean energy purchases and provides them with a roadmap for doing so. While moving off of fossil fuels is essential, to fully realize the potential of the clean energy economy we need companies to prioritize working with and benefiting Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities through their purchases of solar and wind power. We hope you enjoy the report and share with your networks! |
