The NC GOP’s ultra-partisan, gerrymandered legislative maps have twice been thrown out by the courts.

Roy Cooper for North Carolina

John,

For years, North Carolina Republicans have made it clear that the most important thing to them is holding onto power by any means necessary so they can pass their radically conservative agenda.

“By any means necessary” includes gerrymandering our legislative districts so that some voters have more power than others — and so that Democrats don’t have a chance.

Earlier this week, the NC Supreme Court heard arguments about a far-right anti-voter amendment proposed by Republicans in Raleigh. Because of their partisan gerrymandering of legislative maps a decade ago (maps that eventually got thrown out because they were so partisan and unfair), Republicans had unlawful power to propose those amendments.

Roy Cooper tweet: The NC Supreme Court heard arguments today on this question: Should an unconstitutionally elected legislature be able to amend the constitution? I think that’s a clear no. - RC

Roy has made it clear where he stands on that issue: Lawmakers seated under unconstitutionally gerrymandered maps should have no standing to alter our constitution. That’s why he is advocating for a Nonpartisan Redistricting Commission to draw future legislative maps and ensure every North Carolinian’s voice is heard in elections to come.
