Hi John,

We’re aiming for $200 in new monthly donations by midnight tonight! This will let us budget for hiring essential new team members in field and comms. Can you set up a monthly recurring donation right now? [[link removed]]

I remember about a year ago when I was at a homeless camp under a bridge in Tacoma's tideflats. It was night, and the only light was from a fire burning in a round metal trash can. The smoke stacks and industry of the port hulked in the background in giant shadows.

I was struck silent by the scene, because it could have been 100 years ago.

In fact, that camp was literally on top of a homeless camp from 100 years before. Back then, homeless camps were called Hoovervilles. The residents of the current homeless camp used to find remnants of that old Hooverville they were on top of, like a 1920s glass Lysol bottle.

So much has changed in the last 100 years, but homelessness remains.

What does that tell you? That the problem is systemic.

Housing should be treated as a human right, not an opportunity for Wall Street firms, giant multinational corporations, and real estate billionaires to get even richer than they already are.

We need to decommodify housing in this country. After all, 11 million homes are empty year-round in the US. Yet 600,000 people are homeless.

We’re not going to fix this problem with tiny little fixes around the edges. We need millions of units of social housing around the country, a vacancy and luxury tax on additional homes, and rent caps, among other things.

Can you set up a small recurring donation now, so I can keep building a winning campaign and fight for Housing for All in Congress? [[link removed]]
