If this state got its way…

The government should protect freedom, not take it away…
Dear John,
It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do for a living—the government should not have the power to force you to express a message that violates your deepest convictions.
Carl and Angel Larsen know this better than most.
The Larsens own Telescope Media Group, a Minnesota filmmaking company that “exists to tell great stories that honor God.”
But a state law threatens their freedom to decline to create films that express messages or celebrate events that conflict with their core beliefs.
According to Minnesota officials, if the Larsens create films celebrating marriage between one man and one woman, they must also create films celebrating different conceptions of marriage, including same-sex marriage. Declining to do so would mean severe penalties for the Larsens, including steep fines and up to 90 days in jail!
Forced to choose between violating their faith and risking jail time, the Larsens decided instead to challenge this unconstitutional application of state law in federal court.
Censorship is bad enough. But forcing people to express messages that go against their deepest beliefs is even worse.
Thankfully, because of your generosity, Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys could advocate on the Larsens’ behalf, and defend their fundamental First Amendment freedoms.
In August, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Minnesota officials could not use state law to force the Larsens to create films that violate their religious beliefs about marriage. Praise God!
That is a big win. Not just for the Carl and Angel, but for all Americans.
The government should protect freedom, not take it away.
And yet, across America, many seek to drastically reshape society. And in the process, they want to restrict freedom, crush conscience, and silence speech.
Minnesota is the perfect example.
Even after the 8th Circuit’s ruling, Minnesota officials are still defending their power to punish Carl and Angel for trying to freely live out their faith.
But if government has the power to banish the Larsens from the marketplace because of their beliefs about marriage, it has that power over all of us.
That’s why your tax-deductible gift to stand up to opponents of religious freedom is urgently needed.

Those who are seeking to silence and intimidate people of faith will not back down.
Without the generosity of people like you, many of your brothers and sisters would have nowhere to turn when their religious freedom is threatened. But because of you, they have hope. They have allies who will stand with them and fight for them.
And when we stand together, we can win. We do win.
Thanks to your support and God's blessing, ADF has become one of America's most successful Supreme Court advocates, having won nine victories at the High Court since 2011. And together, we’re winning nearly 80 percent of all our cases!
But there’s more work to be done. And God can use any gift you give today to make a difference.
Thankfully, a generous family has provided a $2 million challenge grant to defend people of faith. They want to inspire you to further the impact for freedom and provide the resources needed to defend people like the Larsens whose religious freedom is in jeopardy.
Will you rise to the challenge with your best gift today?
With every case you fund, every victory you help achieve, and every client you lift up in prayer, you empower more of your brothers and sisters to stand boldly and defend freedom for us all.
Thank you for your generosity.
