NAFCU meets with Google as tech company launches checking accounts [ [link removed] ]
NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger and Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt met with Google executives at NAFCU's headquarters Wednesday following the company's announcement that it will be partnering with Citigroup and Stanford Federal Credit Union to offer checking accounts to consumers as soon as next year.

NAFCU Wednesday met with the NCUA to discuss efforts to modernize and improve the agency's examinations as well as other exam-related issues. Earlier this year, NCUA Board Chairman Rodney Hood provided an update on modernizing the agency's supervisory system and announced coordinated efforts with state regulators.

Sens. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, and Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, introduced a NAFCU-supported bill to exclude veterans' loans from the statutory credit union member business loan cap. A companion House-version of the bill was introduced earlier this year by a bipartisan group of representatives.

NAFCU's Brad Thaler Wednesday offered the association's feedback on a number of bills currently being considered by the House Financial Services Committee. The committee's markup of nine bills, a number of which relate to debt collection issues, began yesterday and continues today.


Consumer prices rebound in October; no rate hikes predicted this year [ [link removed] ]
On a seasonally-adjusted basis, overall consumer prices increased 0.4 percent in October following flat inflation in September. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the overall consumer price index (CPI) grew 1.8 percent over the 12-month period.
