Can I have a moment of your time to read about the horrific abortion bill Florida Republicans just passed?

Earlier today, Republicans in Florida’s House of Representatives passed HB5, a 15-week ban on women’s access to reproductive care. This ban was made crueler by not including exemptions for cases of rape or incest.

Ron DeSantis enjoys calling Florida the “freest state in the country,” yet this bill would prohibit victims of rape, human trafficking and incest the right to make decisions over their own bodies.

Let me tell you: I am appalled but not surprised.

Government should have no business interfering in medical decisions between a woman and her doctor. As a State Senator from Florida’s 40th District – the first Latina Democrat to ever serve in this body – I see Republican leaders are showing us that the conservative values of freedom and limited government go right out the window when it comes to a woman’s choice about her own body

So, I am ready to fight like hell alongside Senate Democrats when this bill makes its way to the Senate Floor.
