John -
The Federal Reserve needs leaders who will put people first during economic and climate turmoil. We made that case as a movement, and in response, President Biden nominated the most accomplished, and diverse slate of experts in Fed history who will mitigate climate risks and center equity.
But when it was time for the Senate Banking Committee to confirm these nominees on Tuesday, every Republican seat was empty. Your senator, Pat Toomey, decided to pull a stunt instead of doing his job.
The people of Pennsylvania deserve a senator that doesn’t run from a fight, even if they don’t think they can win. While we urge Sen. Toomey to vote in favor of these highly-qualified nominees, if he is determined to vote “no” then he should at least have the courage to show up and cast that vote.
John, confirming Sarah Bloom Raskin, Lisa Cook, Philip Jefferson, and Lael Brainard is one of the best things we can do to make sure the Federal Reserve takes the climate crisis seriously.
But because of Sarah Bloom Raskin’s record of climate leadership, Republican senators are attempting to block the confirmation process for all of the nominees.
These senators are obstructing the nominees who can get the Federal Reserve on the right track on a wide range of issues. We won’t let things get derailed any longer.
It’s up to the Senate to get these candidates confirmed, so we can center equity as we work for a just economic recovery from the pandemic and reign in the era of fossil fuels.

P.S. Once we get these nominees confirmed, we’re going to need to push the Federal Reserve to take action to hold banks accountable. If you’re ready and willing to be part of the next phase of the #FossilFreeFed campaign, will you join me for our strategy call next Thursday, February 24 at 4pm PT/7pm ET?
