Congress is expected to give themselves another one-month extension, until March 11th, to pass a bill and avoid a government shutdown. But with each extension, known as a continuing resolution, flat funding continues to fail the American people―underfunding programs of critical importance to people with low- and moderate-incomes.

We’re getting closer to Congress passing a spending bill that ends flat Trump-era funding and finally invests in our families and communities. But we’re not there yet.

CHN and our allies have directed more than 47,000 messages directly to members of Congress, and, along with more than 350 organizations nationwide, sent a letter to each member of Congress demanding they pass a 2022 spending bill that reflects people’s needs.

As Congress works on the details of a bill, we need to keep the pressure on them to get this done!

Right now, a review of more than 190 programs of particular importance to people with low and moderate incomes finds that 126―or two-thirds―lost ground in 2021 compared with 2010 with nearly one-third of those programs receiving cuts of 20% or more, when taking inflation into account.

Joe Biden’s proposed budget would more than double K-12 education spending for low-income communities, restore and increase nutrition spending for the elderly, increase funding for housing programs for the aging and people with disabilities and more. Those are exactly the priorities we’re fighting for!
