*Kendall Co. reviewing Plainfield Road for improvements*
**Study looks at section between Grove and Collins roads**
The Kendall County Board this week approved a study of Plainfield Road between Grove and Collins roads for potential improvements for pedestrian and vehicular safety.
The area became one of focus after concerned residents requested improvements to help with pedestrian safety, especially at the intersection of Plainfield and Woolley roads. The area has seen significant development over the previous years, including new subdivisions and the construction of the Oswego Police Headquarters.
?We brought the resident concerns to our partners at Kendall County,? Village President Troy Parlier said. ?Between Prairie Point Park and the many homes and schools in the area, both the Village and Kendall County want people to feel safe accessing the paths and parks to enjoy the outdoors and reach their destination. This is a great example of what intergovernmental communication and partnership can accomplish.?
In 2020, the Village of Oswego installed pedestrian beacons at the corner of Plainfield and Woolley roads as an interim safety measure based on resident feedback.
The contract with Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd., for the first phase of the study to analyze traffic and recommend improvements for Plainfield Road will cost about $39,000. The study is the first step of a five-year plan to make improvements in the area. The study will consider whether a traffic signal is warranted at this intersection.
?Roadway safety is a priority for the County,? Kendall County Board Chairman Scott Gryder said. ?Once we have the right data on Plainfield Road, we can develop a plan for making the right improvements, especially given the continued residential growth in the area.?
The Plainfield Road study will begin with data collection, including traffic counts, turning movements, radar speed survey, crash statistics and collection of roadway records. The report will summarize the findings and make recommendations for improvements. The study is expected to take six months to complete.
Kendall County has engineering for the improvements slated for 2023, with construction taking place in 2024.
