Earlier this month, the Democratic House passed the America Competes Act.
The bill aims to give a boost to American manufacturing in sectors critical to our competition with China. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi cited the bill as a way to “ensure that America is preeminent in manufacturing, innovation and economic strength and can outcompete any nation.”
This is a huge investment in American workers and manufacturing, but this victory in the House was only made possible by the Democratic majority. Only one single Republican member voted for this critical common-sense legislation.
This vote proves, once again, that Republicans are fundamentally out of step with the American workforce. While Democrats look to the future of our global economy and work to make America increasingly competitive on an international scale, Republicans continue to obstruct our progress.
The America COMPETES Act will help our nation to recover from supply chain disruptions, to build more American-made semiconductors, and to defend against illegally traded goods. But as always, there is more work to be done.
