Dear Friend,
Utterly devastated, shocked and angry – that’s how I felt when I found out I was being paid unequally.
Other women shouldn’t have to go through what I did. Can you support my petition today? ([link removed][UNIQID])
By chance I learned I was being paid much less than a male colleague - even though we did the exact same job at one of the largest catering companies in the world. He was paid £22k - I was being paid £6K less.
Even he couldn’t believe it. He said, “what do you mean you earn less than me? You’ve been here much longer”. I raised it with my line manager but she provided false information and tried to cover it up.
I was so distressed when I found out. How was this allowed to happen?

50 years on from the Equal Pay Act the law is failing to protect women like me.
For years, I went to work each day without knowing I was being paid less than the men I was working alongside. My employer got away with it because there is no transparency.
I am not alone. New Fawcett data out today shows that 60% of women are either in the dark about how much male counterparts earn or know the men earn more.
We want the incoming PM to change the law, so women who suspect they are being discriminated against can find out from their employer if they are earning less than male colleagues doing equal work.
No one should have to go through what I did. Sign and share my petition today. ([link removed][UNIQID]) Together, we can make sure women have the #RightToKnow.
With solidarity,
Kay
