SAM Assisted Colorado Marijuana Reform Law Pushing Bad Faith Actors Out of Industry
Last year, we worked with a statewide coalition of allies and the Colorado State Legislature to write and pass HB 1317, a marijuana regulatory reform bill. With near-unanimous bipartisan support, the legislation was signed into law. Now, just eight months later, the law is helping to shut down rogue actors!

One of the most important provisions of the law mandates that doctors treat medical marijuana like other medications - specifying dosage, directions for use, and maximum THC potency level.

Because of these new provisions, doctors that were acting in bad faith by recommending marijuana without concern for their patients' health have shut down. A new article published in The Colorado Sun says, "[the law] has some doctors saying they have stopped working with medical cannabis patients altogether." One owner of a recently closed clinic, who specifically cited HB 1317 as the reason for its shutdown, was quoted saying, "[W]e just weren't comfortable with the prescriptive nature of the new physician forms."
