Dear NRDC Action Fund Activist,
We're on the brink of passing the most significant investments in climate and clean energy in history.
President Biden's Build Back Better agenda is the ticket to our clean energy future — but after passing the House, Build Back Better legislation fell prey to deep-pocketed corporate interests and their Washington allies in the Senate, which is where this vital climate package now sits.
Here's the truth: The oil, gas, and coal industries are counting on us to grow weary of this fight. And that's exactly why we cannot — and will not — give up.
Tell President Biden to do all he can to convince the Senate to pass the strongest possible Build Back Better legislation without delay.
President Biden's State of the Union address is just weeks away — and it's critical that we flood the White House with messages underscoring the importance of Build Back Better legislation before he addresses the nation on March 1.
We're talking about investments that will modernize our transportation systems and dramatically expand electric cars. New wind and solar energy. Cleaning up our air, especially in the Black and brown communities that are hit first and worst by pollution. Lowering costs for families everywhere. Lessening our dependence on the dirty fossil fuels of the past. And creating millions of good-paying jobs to make it all happen.
I know I don't have to tell you that climate change is here and getting worse. From the swarm of killer tornadoes in Kentucky in the fall, to the devastating fires in Colorado, to the recent scientific finding that the megadrought in the American Southwest is the driest period the region has seen in 1,200 years, we're seeing the cost of inaction play out over and over again.
A new report from the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) revealed that 2021 was the fourth-warmest year on record in the U.S. It also stated that the nation saw 20 separate climate disasters that together took the lives of 688 people. We cannot continue this way.
Climate champions in Congress — and there are many — know how important passing this legislation is, and negotiators are working to create a path forward. But it's vital that we continue to pressure our lawmakers to pass bold climate action as soon as possible.
Please, urge President Biden to follow through on his climate promises — and work with the Senate to pass Build Back Better legislation now.
Thank you for making your voice heard.
Sincerely,
Kevin S. Curtis
